- What is K-State InClass?
K-State InClass is a system for administrating short assessment quizzes during lecture periods. It is intended that students use PDA devices and the instructor a desktop computer.
- Preparing Questions
Instructors using K-State InClass are required to log in in order to access their prepared questions and completed class transcripts. Registering an account is fast and easy and is only done so that instructors can maintain their own set of prepared questions.
Instructors can prepare questions of multiple types and in multiple in-class presentation structures. Questions, even blank questions, can also be offered on the fly during the lecture period.
- Types of Items
There are seven basic structures for constructing questions within K-State InClass. When defining a structure, the instructor provides a name and some sort of content.
Multiple Choice
A question providing several response options which may each branch to other question structures
Free Response
A question which provides a blank space for students to respond in their own words. Keywords can be specified and counts of keywords appearing in the responses will be reported in the results.
Likert Scale
The student is asked to rate from one to five how accurately a particular statement describes their understanding.
Ranking
The student arranges given items into the order describing their view of a topic.
Mixture
This structure allows the instructor to offer distinct questions to two or more random subgroups of the class simultaneously. For instance, if the instructor defines a Mix of question A and B, 50% of the class will receive question A and the rest B by random selection.
Sequence
The student is offered a series of items in a particular order.
Multiple Choice, Mixture and Sequence structures can be part of a larger quiz structure and clicking on the icons of these types opens a visualization of that structure. Free Response, Likert Scale, and Ranking items are free-standing and exist on their own or as parts of a larger structure.
